Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY OYSTRYK (nee OUCHAREK) It is with deep sorrow that the family of Mary Oystryk announces her peaceful passing on June 30, 2002, at the Poseidon Central Park Lodge. Surrounded by her loving family, Mary succumbed to a lengthy illness at the age of 88. Mary will be greatly missed by her beloved husband of 70 years, George Oystryk; her children, William (Mary), Ann, Alexandra (Ray Smyth), Orest (Carol), and Lawrence (Nicole) nine grandchildren, Theresa (Jim), Hope (Terry), Katherine, Derrick (Liliana), Colleen, Gregory (Heather), Debbie (Darryl), Stephane, and Patrick; seven great-grandchildren, Sean, Carly, Brendan, Deston, Christian, Brandon, Dylan; and one great-great-grandchild, Sapphire. As well, she is survived by a sister Lillian Kobrynsky; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Maksym and Magdalena Oucharek; brother Michael; sister-in-law Mary Oucharek; brother-in-law Steven Kobrynsky; and granddaughter Janice Oystryk. Mary was born on October 15, 1912, in Rhein, SK, where she spent her childhood. She attended Kitzman School and participated in many concerts under the direction of her father. In 1932, she married George Oystryk. They settled on a farm near Georges family homestead and established a home where they raised their five children. In 1963, Mary and George left Saskatchewan to retire in Winnipeg. In their retirement, they travelled widely in Western Canada and parts of the United States and Mexico. Mary was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. A generous and caring person, she welcomed family and friends into her home and was always extending a helping hand to those in need. She especially took great pleasure in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Mary had many talents. She enjoyed gardening, baking, preserving, crocheting, knitting and several other crafts. A deeply religious woman, Mary spent many hours praying and reading the Bible and shared her love of singing with the church choir. She was a longtime member of the Ukrainian Catholic Womens League in Winnipeg. Her memory will be cherished by all who were touched by her gentle and loving spirit. The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the 5th floor staff of the Poseidon Central Park Lodge and the emergency staff of the St. Boniface General Hospital for their kind and compassionate care. Prayers will be held on July 5 at 7:00 p.m. followed by a funeral mass on July 6 at 10:00 a.m., both at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 390 Marion St Fr. John Mostivsky will be presiding. Interment will follow at the Green Acres Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the Sts.
