JAMES W. HAMPTON Peacefully on Monday July 1, 2002, James Hampton passed away at his residence at the age of 70 years. Left to cherish his memory are his son James Hampton (Teresa) of Thunder Bay, ON; daughter Lisa Hampton of Thunder Bay, ON; grandchildren, Jamie, Emily and Bradley; special friends, Don, Sonja and Scott Minty of Winnipeg; brother Ivan Hampton of Burnaby BC; sisters, Jean Webb of Vermilion Bay, ON, Bonnie Schwantz of Sault. Ste Marie, ON and numerous nieces and nephews. Jim grew up in Winnipeg and moved to Marathon, ON at an early age where he worked for Marathon Paper Co. In 1955 he moved to Atikokan ON and briefly worked at Steep Iron Mines before joining the Atikokan Police Force in 1957, a career which he held for 20 years. Jim was promoted to Chief of Police at the age of 27 a position he held until he moved to Winnipeg in 1976, where he was employed by the Provincial Government as a Sheriffs Officer until his retirement in 1976. Jim was also employed as the Chief Test Inspector at Assiniboia Downs until his retirement in 2002. Jim was a member of the Atikokan Masonic Lodge, York Rite, Khartum Temple Shrine. Special thanks to Dr. Kevin Saunders and WHRA Health Care workers Bronwyn, Joe and Halina for their care and attention. At Jims request cremation has taken place. A graveside service will held on Saturday July 6, at 11:00 a.m. at Hillside Cemetery, Morden, MB. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba.
