GEORGE ADAMS MENZIES Mr. George Menzies of Medicine Hat, AB, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Ada Mary Menzies, passed away on Monday, July 1, 2002 at the age of 92 years. George leaves to cherish his memory one daughter Judy Smith of Medicine Hat; one son Douglas (Janet) Menzies of Houston, TX; five grandchildren, Robert Smith (Sandra), Jennifer Smith, Jacqueline, Alyssa and Curtis Menzies; one great-granddaughter Mackenzie Smith; and one brother Maurice (Muriel) Menzies of Winnipeg. George was predeceased by his wife Ada; his parents, Duncan and Agnes Menzies; and three brothers, Duncan, Jack and Forbes. George was born on March 24, 1910 in Kirkcaldy, Scotland and immigrated to Canada at the age of one. In 1973, he became a Canadian citizen. He met his future wife, Ada Mary Crone in Winnipeg and they were married on June 2, 1937. In his younger years, George loved and played baseball, a sport at which he excelled. He worked for the Canada Bread Company, Monarch Lumber Company and went on to serve in the navy during the Second World War. For most of his life he worked for Ray-O-Vac Canada from which he retired in 1975. After his retirement he and Ada travelled to Malaysia, Norway and Houston, TX to visit their son and his family. They moved to Calgary in 1976 to be close to his family and then to Medicine Hat in 1981. He returned to Calgary in 1987 and in 2000 he moved back to Medicine Hat to spend his remaining years near his family. The graveside service will be held at Eden Brook Cemetery, 17th Ave. S.W. at Lower Spring Bank Road, Calgary, AB, on Saturday, July 6 at 1:00 p.m. Interment will follow in the family plot.
