Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFREDERICK LEO THOMAS KANE It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Father and Pappa following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Dad slipped away quietly on July 5, 2002, with his family at his side. He was predeceased by his love, Jessie, in 1976, several of his brothers and sisters, and son, Gary, last year. He will be sadly missed by his son Stephen (Heather) daughters, Kathleen and Michele; and daughter-in-law, Bonny. Missing their Pappa are grandsons, Graham (Carol), Jeff, Adam, Justin, Jordan, Andrew, Malcolm, Fraser; and granddaughter Lora as well as six great-grandchildren; also sister-in-law Clara (Bill) Miles. Dad was born in Halifax, NS on February 26, 1922, the tenth child with six brothers and 13 sisters. In 1946, while serving overseas, he met and married his only love, Jessie, in Aberdeen. He brought his war-bride back to Canada, and on a coast to coast trip in 1948, stopped in Winnipeg. Once mom saw the department stores on Portage Avenue, they stayed, settling in St. James. Dad was a supervisor for Canada Post where he worked the night shift for 26 years. He was instrumental in starting the Postal Curling league (which became a National league) and enjoyed many trips with the Postal Angling Club. He retired in 1983. He enjoyed his retirement spending time with his good friend Doris Hadley and family, or at Avenue Jewellers with Boris and Doreen Romanow, or fishing with Bill Funk and Harry Nelson. He loved painting chalets at Celebrity Ceramics and friends Margaret Kramer and Maureen (Moe) and Wes Pirrie stayed close right to the end. He loved you all, youre very special people. The family sends heartfelt thanks to Norma Keyser, (not just a nurse, but also a friend), Ken Cox (Dad thoroughly enjoyed your visits), and all the health care aids whose help enabled him to remain at home for so long. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Comfort Card Program, at Hospice and Palliative Care Manitoba at N119-2109 Portage Ave., Winnipeg MB. R3J 0L3. The program, started in dads name, sends handmade cards to anyone dealing with a terminal illness. Cremation has taken place. A celebration of dads life will be held at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave. (entrance on Aubrey Street), on Tuesday, July 9, at 2:00 p.m. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
