TIMOTHY EARL LORENTZ After a courageous battle with cancer, Timothy Earl Lorentz died on the morning of July 6, 2002, he was 32 years old. His grandparents Arthur and Jean Lorentz, as well as his young niece Samantha predeceased Tim. Left to mourn his passing are his parents, Earl and Frances Lorentz; his brother Danny and Dannys wife Pam; nephew Matthew and niece Rebekka; grandparents, John and Mable Anderson; mom and dad, Doris and Glen Hurley and brother-in-law Sean. Tims absence will be felt most by his wife Dana, his precious two year old son Noah, and his beautiful princess McKenna. Tims soulmate was his dear Dana. Throughout Tims battle with cancer, Dana was his strength and inspiration to keep fighting. Tim faced his illness in typical Lorentz fashion. He refused to feel sorry for himself, instead worrying about his family and what he could do to make Dana more comfortable. Tim astounded doctors, nurses, family, and friends in how he handled his cancer treatments with such apparent ease and his constantly bright and upbeat outlook on life. Tim has the heart of a champion and proved it beyond any and all doubts. Unfortunately the cancer had progressed too far, even for Tim. Tim was born on May 4, 1970, the second son of Earl and Frances Lorentz. He was raised in Transcona and as a youngster enjoyed sports and the outdoors. After Dana, Noah, and McKenna, his two passions in life were hockey and fishing. Tim enjoyed nothing more than a Friday night hockey game or a weekend spent with his family at the lake. Tim was a skilled fisherman and with his father at his side managed to catch a trophy sized fish. As Tim grew into a man, his skills as a hockey player were evident. During the 1991-1992 season, Tims last as a junior, he led his team to a championship that included setting the new single season point record for goals and assists that still stands today. Tims last years as a hockey player were spent with the Springfield 98s Hockey Club in Oakbank, MB, where Tim helped the team to a championship in the 2000-2001 season. Tim was known for his playmaking ability, his refusal to panic under pressure, and his soft hands around the oppositions net. He was a true leader on and off the ice. He will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all his hockey mates. Some years, Tim somehow managed to find the time to play and coach hockey. Most notably the "AA" Storm Hockey Club. In 2000, with Tim as its head coach the Storm were crowned the Provincial Senior Womens Champions and went on to the National Tournament in Nova Scotia to compete against some of the best female players in the World. Although his working career was brief, Tim prospered at G.E.L. Tool where he worked as a sales professional. His business trips took him all over Manitoba and Northwestern Ontario. He was an excellent provider for his family. The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the nurses and support staff at CancerCare Manitoba. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tims honour to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. A memorial service will be held at the Oakbank Arena on Wednesday, July 10, at 2:00 p.m. Arrangements entrusted to Klassen Funeral Chapel, 338-0331.
