Date of Passing: May 16, 2002
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryAMANDA OSTRANDER (nee WILLIAMSON) Peacefully, on May 16, 2002 at Concordia Place, Winnipeg in her 98th year. She will be sadly missed by her two daughters, Nancy Ostrander of Vancouver, Sheila Ostrander of Toronto; her sister-in-law, Mrs. Roma Steadman of Calgary and many friends and relatives in Winnipeg as well as New York, Toronto and Vancouver. She was born June 9, 1904 near Sarnia, ON, the eldest of four. Following the sudden, early death of her father, the family moved west, eventually settling in the picturesque town of Souris, MB near Brandon. Some mementos of their pioneering years are in the Souris Museum. Amanda began her training as a nurse at the Souris Hospital. Later the family moved to Winnipeg and she completed her R.N. at the Winnipeg General Hospital (now Health Sciences Centre). She married George Ostrander in 1929. They were long-time members of Gordon-King Memorial United Church. A large gathering of relatives and friends celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1979, shortly before his passing in 1982. Her hobbies included gardening and music, but her major interest was in arts and crafts. She enjoyed sewing and designing high fashion clothes, creating figurines and crafting a variety of different kinds of dolls. She was also an avid doll collector. She enjoyed travelling extensively in North America with her two daughters. The family gratefully acknowledges the help of friends Kathy Loeppky, Anne Dobka, Jack Crisp, the Homecare team and the wonderful nursing staff and management at Concordia Hospital and Concordia Place. Interment will take place in Elmwood Cemetery at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10 followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave. (entrance on Aubrey Street). In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Amandas memory to The Masonic Past Masters Association Scholarship Fund, 420 Corydon Ave., Winnipeg, MB. R3L 0N8. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
