KEITH CHORNEYKO After a courageous battle with cancer, Keith Chorneyko passed away on July 7, 2002, at Minnedosa Hospital. Left to mourn are his wife and best friend of 50 years Bernice (nee Hawkins) his children, Cheryl (Dennis) Motuz of Lethbridge, Brent (Heidi) of Winnipeg; his grandchildren, Alicia, Jared, Meagan and Nikki Motuz and Rob Everett; brother Mervyn (Margaret) sister Gloria Uhryniuk; sister-in-law Ina (Frank) McLaughlin; brother-in-law Charlie (Joan) McIntyre; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Edna Chorneyko; and his granddaughter Mikki Everett. Keith was born in Eden on June 12, 1925, where he spent his boyhood years. He started teaching at age 17 in rural schools. In September 1947, he went to Winnipeg and taught in St. James. One of the highlights of his career was teaching children who excelled in art. Keith and Bernice moved to Minnedosa in 1958, where Keith was Principal of the North School. In 1969 he changed his career path and opened K. B. Ceramics & Flowers. He was well known as a judge at Ceramic Shows in Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba. Keiths creative talents shone in his gardening and landscaping, needlework, quilting and stained glass. On retiring he and Bernice spent their summers at Otter Lake and winters in Texas. After 10 years they returned to Minnedosa. A service of remembrance will be held at St. Marks Anglican Church, Minnedosa, on July 11 at 2:00 p.m. A service for the committal of ashes will be held on July 12 at 10:30 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 4000 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, with a reception following in the Chapel Lawn Reception Centre. If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Marks Anglican Church, 108 2nd Ave. S., Minnedosa or a charity of your choice.
