GEORGINA GILLIS (nee MAJOR) It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Georgina Gillis (nee Major) on July 7, 2002, at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 85 with her family at her side. Georgina will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her husband, Stan, of 65 years; her son Norman Gillis (Gloria) daughters, Doreen Labossiere (Ralph), Lucille Labossiere (Aime), Denise Weselake (Joe) and daughter-in-law Phyllis Gillis along with grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Georgina was predeceased by her parents, Georgina and Clifford Major; her brother Mederic; sister Luzina; sons, Guy (1969), Leo (1972), and Donald (1998) and grandson Clifford (2001). Georgina was born in St. Leon on March 22, 1917. Georgina married Stan Gillis, a young farmer from Holland, Europe. They settled in the town of Altamont. They lived and worked on the family farm until their retirement to Carman in November 1976. They were blessed with seven children. First and foremost, Georgina showered love and attention on her family and everyone she met. She taught her children by example and through stories. She liked nothing better than to gather her children together and talk. She enjoyed when family and friends would drop over and was always ready with home-cooked meals, baked goods, and preserves. Arrangements for the next visit were always made before guests left. Georgina loved music, singing, and dancing and shared this with her family. She was a member of the church choir, first in St. Lupicin and later in Carman after she and Stan retired. She was known for choosing just the right card with the most meaningful words. Georgina also liked to write poems and songs and would often share them with family members while playing the keyboard, a beloved instrument that gave her hours of enjoyment. Georgina will be remembered for her nurturing manner, gentleness, kindness, thoughtfulness, unselfish hardworking ways, and her absolute, unconditional love. A very special thanks to the staff of Foyer Valade, where Georgina spent her last three years in their warm, compassionate atmosphere. Thanks also to the staff on 4B at St. Boniface Hospital where their care made her final days comfortable while allowing and welcoming her family and friends to visit in great numbers. Though her smile is gone forever And her hand we cannot touch We will never lose the memory of the One we love so much. To all who have a loved one Please treasure her with care For you will never know the heartache felt When you find she isnt there We love you and you will live in our hearts forever. Rest in peace knowing you are greatly loved. Prayers will be said from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Church 35-1st Ave. N.W., Carman, on Wednesday, July 10 at 7:30 p.m., with funeral mass on Thursday, July 11 at 10:00 a.m., with Father Edward S. Kosa O.M.I. officiating. Interment will take place in the Carman Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba at 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2. Doyles Funeral Chapel of Carman in care of arrangements.
