MARTHA FUCHS (nee MEISNER) (KUMMERFELDT) Peacefully on September 12, 2002, at the Ashern Personal Care Home, Martha Fuchs, aged 82 years, of Ashern, MB. Martha was born July 29, 1920, on her parents farm in the Bayton District of Moosehorn, MB. She married Herbert Kummerfeldt on October 12, 1938, and together they farmed for 27 years in the Martin District. Herbert passed away on November 5, 1965. Martha married John Fuchs on December 31, 1966. In 1968 Mom decided to bring John to Moosehorn to try his hand at farming. In 1973 they sold the farm and moved to Winnipeg where Mom cared for a paraplegic until they decided to move to Portage la Prairie and manage the Westgate Inn. By 1982 they had built a home and moved back to Moosehorn where they resided for 13 years. Another move took them back to Winnipeg for four years. Mom missed "Home," family and friends and they were on the move againthis time to First Choice Manor in Ashern. On June 21, 2001, Mom was moved to the Ashern Personal Care Home where she rejoined John who had moved there on May 1, 2001. Mom enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and her grandchildren. She was always ready for company and a card game. She loved flowers, and going to church. Many of her last days were spent at her all-time favourite pastime, doing jigsaw puzzles. She was a member of the Peace Lutheran Church in Moosehorn and a member of the E.L.W. Mom also enjoyed singing in the choir. Martha was predeceased by her parents Emma and Emil Meisner; three brothers, Eddy, William and Raymond; one sister Elsie Rear; brothers-in-law, George Havard, Elmer Kiesmen and Raymond Rear; sister-in-law Erma Meisner; and son-in-law Ron Barr. She leaves to mourn her beloved husband John; her daughters, Eileen (Frank) Ashley and Marcella (Darcy) Nynych; her foster children, David (Dianne) Chambers and Rosemary (Alfred) Meisner; her stepchildren, Darlene Andre, Wayne (Margaret) Fuchs, Barry (Sharon) Fuchs, Marlene (Lorri) Rink, 21 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Tillie (Fred) Kiesman, Lydia Kiesman, Helene (Wilfred) Booth, Myrtle (Tom) Iverson, and Alvina (Hap) Bednarek; brothers, Harry (Helen), Carl (Grace), Alfred (Rosemary), Ernie (Jackie), Peter (Margaret), Richard and Reinhold Meisner; sisters-in-law, Tillie, Sigrun and Helen Meisner; also many nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held on Sunday, September 15 at 2:00 p.m. in the Peace Lutheran Church, Moosehorn, with Rev. Donna J. Smalley officiating. Interment in the Lutheran Cemetery, Moosehorn. Pallbearers will be Earnest, Wilfred, Lloyd, Raymond and Jeffrey Ashley, Bill Chambers, and Shane Plantz. Friends and relatives may pay their respects from 7:00 - 8:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 14 at the Arnason Funeral Home in Ashern. Viewing also at the church prior to the service. The family would like to express their appreciation and thanks to Doctor Paul Berrow, the staff and volunteers at the Ashern Personal Care Home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Peace Lutheran Church, Moosehorn, MB, or to the Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, or to the Manitoba Heart & Stroke Foundation, 301 - 352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB.
