HENDRIK "OPA HENNY" DE BOER Hendrik passed away peacefully after a short illness on July 10, 2002. He will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife of 53 years, Betsy; daughters, Sylvia, Tina, Annette (Brian) grandchildren, Evan, Lauren, Jared, Garret, Mackenzie; and numerous relatives and friends. Hendrik was predeceased by his infant twin son and daughter, daughter Anneka and his parents and siblings. Hendrik was born on May 12, 1920 in Vlagtwedde, Groningen, The Netherlands. He was proud to serve in the Dutch Army 1-12 Regiment from 1945 to 1950 where he earned the rank of Sergeant-Major. It was while he was stationed in Indonesia that he met his beautiful wife, Betsy. Together they began a life journey that saw their immigration to Canada in 1953. The "Doctor of Motors" was employed with various trucking outfits retiring in 1985 from Canada Safeway as trucking fleet Superintendent. Hendrik was very active throughout his life. He travelled with his family extensively. He enjoyed the outdoors boating and fishing endlessly. He participated in various social and sports clubs. Mostly, Opa Henny was a caring, devoted and proud husband, father and grandfather. He was "Absolutely" a constant and loving presence to all who knew him. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to both the staff of the Seven Oaks General Hospital third floor, unit 10 and The Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, Nighthawk Unit 1 for their kind and compassionate care. Please join us in celebrating Hendriks life on Monday, July 15, at 10:00 a.m. in the chapel of Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the Glen Eden Reception Centre. Cremation has taken place with a family interment at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Hendriks memory to The Health Care Aides Education Fund c/o Middlechurch Home of Winnipeg, 280 Balderstone Rd., West St. Paul, MB R4A 4A6.
