LENA MELNYK (nee YUZWA) Born December 18, 1914 Died July 10, 2002 Lena is survived by her brothers, Pete Yuzwa of Poplarfield, MB, Mike and Mary Yuzwa of Broad Valley, MB; sister Josie and Robert Meili of Lethbridge, AB; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Dmetro; parents, John and Nellie; brother Frank and Mary Yuzwa; sister Stella and Bill Plinka; brother-in-law Mike Sametz; sister-in-law Florence Yuzwa; nephews, David and Michael Geragosian, Ernie Sametz, Frances Mann and Ron Chudy. Lena grew up in Winnipeg and married Dmetro Melnyk on May 18, 1940. They resided mainly in Fisher Branch, MB. Lena and Dmetro ran the Fisher Branch Theatre and Melnyk Insurance. Lena loved to sew and cook she also enjoyed gardening. They loved to travel. She also enjoyed entertaining and music. Lena was an active member of the local Womens Institute. After Dmetro passed on Lena moved to the Fisher Branch Chalet and later to the Arborg Personal Care Home. She was very happy in Arborg and the staff enjoyed her stay. Thank you sincerely to the personal care home staff. Funeral service will be held on Monday, July 15 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church in Fisher Branch, MB. Burial will take place at the St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. Fr. Peter Chorney will be officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Fisher HandiVan in Lena Melnyks memory.
