Minnie was born on February 20, 1917 in Point Douglas where she spent most of her life. Being proud of her Ukrainian heritage, she became an active member of the Olga Baserab Ladies Society of Shashkewich Hall. She faithfully served as secretary of the society for over 20 years because of her fluency in English and Ukrainian. She was also a member of St. Andrews Ukrainian Catholic Church. Besides being active in her community, Minnie worked at the Hotel Fort Garry laundry, Eatons Mail Order and finally at Western Smallware. As a homemaker, Minnie enjoyed crocheting, knitting and working in the garden where she tended to her flowers and vegetables. She thoroughly enjoyed preparing traditional Christmas and Easter dishes which she shared with her family. In the 1970s mom had the opportunity of making a most memorable trip to the Ukraine with her Aunt Teenie. Here she was able to see the birthplace of her parents and meet her extended family in the village of Dupleska, povit Zalishchyky, oblast Ternopil. Minnie was a kind, generous person who loved her family dearly and through her lifetime made many close friends and neighbours because of her open, caring and friendly manner. Minnie will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Gordon (Donna), Jerry (Irene) grandchildren, Paul, Krista, Larysa, Peter and Michael; sister-in-law Bernice Bilous and family; brother-in-law Nick Mendres (Mary) sisters-in-law, Elsie and Mary Mendres; nieces, nephews and dear faithful and longtime friend Beatrice Metzak.
