Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLUTHER EDWARD SIMPSON Luther Edward Simpson beloved husband of Janet (Jessie) Simpson passed away peacefully on Thursday July 11, 2002 at the age of 87 years. Luther was born the son of William and Louise Simpson on August 13, 1914. He grew up on the family farm in Miami, MB. He joined the services in 1940 and served with the Royal Canadian Signal Corp. attaining rank of Sergeant, returning from Holland in 1946. He worked on the electrifying program of Manitoba. He joined the CBC in 1954 where he worked for 25 years. He was an avid amateur radio operator obtaining his Licence in 1946. He was a member of the Manitoba Amateur Radio Museum Inc. at Austin, MB., Canadas only Radio Museum. In 1946 he joined Miami Branch #88 of the Royal Canadian Legion. He held many offices and became President in 1954. He transferred to the Carman Branch #18 in 1955 and has been an active member at all times. He spent several years promoting the Royal Canadian Legion Athletic Camp at the Peace Gardens; also the Legion Poster and literacy Contest held in conjunction with Remembrance Day. He was an avid gardener, enjoyed fishing, hunting and camping with many friends and family. Also travelling Canada from coast to coast. Dad always cared for his family, his grandchildren will fondly remember many of their functions and achievements that he attended on their behalf. The special times fishing and camping at Lake Audy will be cherished in our memories forever. Besides his wife, Luther leaves to cherish his memory daughter Cathy, her husband Bill Rudd and their children, Nicholas, Jacqueline and Duncan; one sister Margaret Nichols; and brother-in-law Earl Vanwyck; as well as many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, one brother Harold and his wife Louise Simpson, two sisters, Mary and Ada; two brothers-in-law Harold, Corden and Len Nichols; and three granddaughters in infancy. Funeral service will be held from the Carman United Church on Monday, July 15 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Harold Kenyon officiating. Interment will take place in the Fairview Cemetery, Roland, MB. If friends so desire donations may be made to the Carman Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Box 1025, Carman, MB, R0G 0J0 or to the Heart and Stroke Foundation 301-352 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB, R3B 2H8.
