ETHEL MAY "COOKIE" COOK January 12, 1906 - July 12, 2002 Peacefully at her home at Golden West Centennial Lodge, surrounded by her loving family, Cookie passed away at the age of 96 and a half years. Cookie was born in England and adopted by Minnie and Henry Buzzard who immigrated to Texas and later settled in Gladstone, MB. She married George Thomas Cook in Gladstone in 1928. They raised six children and settled in Winnipeg. Cookie worked at Air Canada for 25 years and was a member of The Retiree Club. She loved to travel, and at 85, went to Guatemala by herself. She was devoted to her family, her community, and anyone in need. She was actively involved with the Salvation Army League of Mercy and a Life Member with the Ladies Auxiliary (No. 1 Legion, Sargent Ave.), where she was the leading Poppy seller for a number of years. She will be remembered always for her brilliant blue eyes, her smile, and ringing the bell of her Salvation Army Kettle at Christmas. Cookie leaves to cherish her memory, her children, George (Pat), Ruth, Roy (Sandra) her grandchildren, Brian, Sandy, Leila, Terry, Lori, Lindy, Ricky, Cherie, Frankie, Kenny and their spouses and partners; as well as 11 great-grandchildren. Cookie was predeceased by her parents; her husband George; daughters, Edith and Eve; son Frankie; grandson Donald Cook, and son-in-law Ken Alderson. She was also predeceased by her long time partner William "Scotty" Rutherford. The family would like to sincerely thank the staff at Golden West Centennial Lodge for the kindness over the years. A service will take place on Wednesday, July 17 at 11:00 a.m. at the Salvation Army Heritage Park Church, 825 School Rd. Interment will follow at Brookside Cemetery.
