Born in Peguis, MB on November 10, 1945, Dad was raised at Matheson Island where he attended school to grade 6, and then went to work in the fishing industry. He was a shorehand at Warrens landing at age 16, then became a commercial fisherman. Barney married Sarah, July 22, 1965, at Matheson Island Chapel. They were married for 38 years. Dad was a hard working man, lending a hand to anyone that asked, giving advice on fishing and travelling in a boat on Lake Winnipeg. He was not only a grandfather, but a father figure for his grandchildren. Dad had a sense of humour, lifting our spirits when he knew we were down and made us laugh by telling jokes or stories about the good old days. He gave all he could to each of us. Dad had a warm heart, very humble and caring. Dad always provided for his family through many hardships. Dad greatly admired his children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He held a special place in our hearts. Dad saw his first grandson Doug graduate from high school; he took us for wiener roasts, swimming at Sandy Beach, many beautiful boat rides and fishing. He always helped us out in any way he could. Dad left many fond memories with his family and friends. he called all his sons-in-law his favourites. Dad and Mom went through difficult times but still held onto their marriage. Dad loved Mom so much. He was always worried about her after the loss of their son Sheldon on December 10, 2001. Dad was a very special father, son, brother, grandfather, uncle, nephew and friend.
