JOHN ARNOLD "JACK" SWEENEY 1916 - 2002 It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear father on Sunday, July 14, 2002 at the Deer Lodge Centre. Dad was predeceased by his beloved wife Nan in 1985 and his sister Helen Taylor in 2001. He is survived by his son Dennis and two daughters, Maureen (Paul) Joss and Joan (Neil) Christie. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Mark, Trevor (Keri and great-grandson Mitchell) and Daniel Joss, Colleen and Amy Christie; brother Ron (Iris) Sweeney in California and several nieces and nephews. Dad was a Flight Lieutenant in the RCAF and flew Lancaster Bombers during the Second World War. He worked for Singer Sewing Machine Company for 40 years. Dad was a volunteer with the Dubuc Social Club for years and developed many wonderful friendships. He was a gentle and caring husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. The real measure of a persons life is not in the accomplishments of an extraordinary career, but in the loyalty of his friends, the love of his family and the legacy of integrity and gentleness the he leaves behind. Thanks, Dad. We would like to thank the staff of T-4, Deer Lodge Centre, for their care and compassion towards "Mr. Sweetie" over the last 18 months. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 17 at 10:00 a.m. at Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy No. 1 East at Navin Road, with Rev. Fr. Fred Olds officiating. Viewing will take place one-half hour prior to service. Interment to follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Deer Lodge Centre, 2109 Portage Ave., R3J 0L3, or the St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation, 409 Tache Ave. R2H 2A6.
