GARRY ALLEN SKRUMEDA (ALLEN) March 20, 1952 - July 14, 2002 We, the family, announce with great sadness, the passing of Garry (Allen) Skrumeda on Sunday, July 14, 2002 at the St. Boniface Hospital. He leaves to mourn his passing, his loving wife of 27 years, Theresa (Terry) son Shaun (Angie) his parents, Alexander and Solange Skrumeda; brother Wayne Skrumeda; sisters, Eunice Cyr (Fred), Louise Nault; his mother-in-law Helen Froese and her friend Nick Poshtar. He also leaves to mourn, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and numerous friends. Allens career spanned many years, beginning with teaching in Northern Manitoba communities with the Assiniboine Community College. In 1975, he began working with the Department of Natural Resources (Manitoba) as a communications officer. Later, he joined Canada Post, first in Winnipeg and then at the Head Office in Ottawa as a Senior Communications Strategy and Marketing Expert. In 1994, Allen founded his own consulting company, "Ultimate Strategies International", where he continued to provide professional services until his untimely passing. Allens leadership and many talents were evident throughout his life. At age 14, because of his debating and public speaking skills, he was chosen to address a United Nations event in New York City. In 1980, Allen was recognized as a future leader and was selected to attend the Duke of Edinburghs Conference in Newfoundland. Later with Canada Post, he received the Distinguished Gold Ring of Excellence for outstanding performance and leadership. Some of Allens numerous accomplishments include the creation and heading of "Flight for Freedom", a national award winning literacy program with Canada Post. Along with the Honourable Yvon Dumont, he was instrumental in creating and launching the "Jobs Core for Youth" which continues today under the name "The Lieutenant Governors Youth Experience Program". Allen, along with Yvon Dumont and David Chartrand created the successful "Recruitment Initiative" for the Manitoba Metis Federation. Allen was committed to improving the lives of many disadvantaged peoples, whom he worked tirelessly for, under these and other program initiatives. His many passions included his staunch support of the monarchy, his love of history, politics, and current affairs. More recently, he enjoyed boating on the Red River, playing Scrabble, and taking his little dog, George, for daily walks. Above all, was his love and commitment to his wife, son and family. Very special and heartfelt thanks to Steve Washen, his long time friend, and the doctors and nursing staff of the I.C.U. at the St. Boniface Hospital. Your compassion and understanding went far beyond the call of duty. "The Family". According to Allens wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, July 18 at 11:00 a.m. in the Edward J. Coutu Funeral Chapel, 680 Archibald St. in Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the St. Boniface Hospital. When God saw it was not to be, He said: "Follow Me and I will show you the Way". In care of arrangements: EDWARD J.
