Audrey cherished her 15 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren who brought great joy to her life. Audrey was born on April 23, 1921 in Toronto, ON, to John and Hilda Garlick. Her early years, with younger siblings Norma and Ron, were spent in the Toronto area. Audrey completed school followed by accounting courses that led to work in the bookkeeping field. During the Second World War she met Clayton Young whom she married in 1942. They moved to Claytons home of Sperling, MB, where they started their family of six children on the family farm. Following the war and several more difficult years of trying to support the family in the Sperling area, Clayton traveled to Alberta for better job opportunities. Audrey and Claytons marriage failed a few years later and Audrey raised her children by herself. Audrey left Sperling for Carman in 1964 finding employment with Manitoba Telephone as a telephone operator followed by the Town of Carman secretary position and bookkeeping for McEacherns. Carman provided many opportunities for Audrey and the family still with her at home. Many social circles opened up as well opportunities for Audrey to get involved in the community such as the United and Anglican Churches, the legion, Hospital Auxiliary and her favorite, helping those in need. Audreys marriage to Cliff changed all greatly as she finally had a soulmate to share her life. Time was spent on Cliffs home farm in Homewood prior to purchasing their existing home in Carman. Both Audrey and Cliff enjoyed their Carman residence, the gardening, their neighbours, and visits from family and friends. In the last couple of years, Audrey developed dementia and had to take residence in the Boyne Lodge. The separation from Cliff and their home was most difficult; however, in time she called the Lodge - her place. Cliff visited faithfully each day extending love and support. The story of how Audrey coped with such a challenge can not be told in this article; however, it is important to know her greatest lifes work was how she raised her six children. Each has in their own way let Mum know how much she is appreciated and that she will never be forgotten. Her influence on them extends in their every day life and now even further through their children and the grandchildren. What a wonderful legacy for Mum to leave us all! Honorary pallbearers representing some of Audreys many friends are Mildred Soutar, Winnie Duvenaud, Alice and Eldon McEachern, Isobel Bell and Marg Lyons. Special thanks to the Boyne Lodge and staff for taking such special care of Mum! A family interment will take place on Friday, July 19 at 10:00 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery, Carman. Funeral service will be held from the Carman United Church in Carman, MB, on Friday, July 19 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Harold Kenyon officiating.
