CAROL JOYCE MacMARTIN (nee ONOFRIECHUK) On July 15, 2002, after a courageous battle with cancer, Carol died peacefully at the Health Sciences Centre. She will be greatly missed by her husband Cameron, who cared for her tenderly throughout her two-year illness. Also left to mourn her passing are her mother Ella Onofriechuk of Roblin, MB; sister Elizabeth (and husband Scott) Ney; as well as her nephew Coleman and niece Mikaela, all of Cambridge, ON; and her brother Donald Onofriechuk (and friend Maritess Botor) of Winnipeg; Camerons parents, Joyce and John MacMartin of Winnipeg; Camerons sister Jocelyn Beveridge (and husband Tom) as well as her nieces, Bailey and Stephanie; and nephew Patrick of Dallas, TX; and Camerons sister Cynthia MacMartin. Also surviving are her great-aunts, Emlie Kleebaum of Canton OH, Margaret Kleebaum of Winnipeg, MB, and Hannah Kleebaum of Inglis, MB; her uncles and aunts, Peter (and Rita) Onofriechuk of Penticton, BC, Kay Arsenault (and Gil) of Belleville, ON, Nestor Holunga of Winnipeg, MB, Rudolf Nernberg (and Bertha) of Russell, MB; and Enid Nernberg of Inglis, MB, Margaret Nernberg of Russell, MB; Camerons grandmother, Hazel MacMartin of Winnipeg; uncles and aunts, Brock MacMartin (and wife Louise) of Winnipeg, Mike MacMartin (and Charlaine) of Edmonton, AB, Carolyn Castle (and Clint), Marvin Borgfjord (and Marilyn) of Dauphin, MB, Lenore Good (and Chris) of Winnipeg; and numerous cousins and friends. Besides her grandparents, Carol was predeceased by her father Andrew Onofriechuk in 1991. Carol was also predeceased by her uncles and aunts, Mike and Flora Onofriechuk, Nick and Florence Onofriechuk, Alexandra (Sadie) Holunga, Mary Gaber, Henry Nernberg, Oscar Nernberg, and Harold and Edna Weir. Carol was born in Roblin, MB, in 1966. As a young girl Carol had a love for horses, and personally trained her horse Holly. She was active in her community, singing in the church choir, and participating in 4H. She attended Goose Lake High School, and graduated from Concordia College in Edmonton. After completing her BA at the University of Manitoba, she travelled to New Zealand, Australia, and Fiji. She completed a certificate in Human Resources Management at the University of Manitoba. She and Cameron spent several years in Korea, teaching English. During their stay in Asia, they had many wonderful experiences travelling together, visiting Thailand, the Philippines, and Japan. Upon returning to Canada, Carol began her career in human resources as a technical recruiter with Manpower Services. She loved opera music, cooking, and entertaining her wide circle of friends. Carol loved outdoor activities like fishing, camping, hiking, travelling, and motorcycle riding. She was a talented photographer, and documented many of her adventures in photographs. Carol especially treasured time at the family cottage at Childs Lake. Carols life was short, but she had a profound impact on those who knew her. She was an inspiration, facing each challenge with courage, determination, cheerfulness, faith and optimism. We admired her tremendous spirit, concern for others, quick wit, and strength of character. Thank you to the many friends and family members who supported Cameron and Carol throughout Carols illness. Your help and support are sincerely appreciated. Thanks to Dr. Bartlet at the National Institute of Health in Bethesda, MD, and Dr. Maksymiak and the staff at CancerCare Manitoba, and the Health Sciences Centre Emergency and D4 General Hospital staff, Manitoba Home Care workers, and the Canadian Cancer Society Volunteer Driver Program. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 19 at Hope Lutheran Church, 1400 Pembina Hwy. A service of comfort will be held Saturday, July 20 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Nairn-Chyz Funeral Home, Roblin. Interment to follow in Roblin District Cemetery.
