FERDINAND (FRED) OTTO With the love and comfort of his family around him, Fred Otto passed away at Deer Lodge Centre on July 17, 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife Ruth; son Randy (Terri) Otto; daughters, Joanne (Gerry) Proteau of Winnipeg and Linda (Len) Birarda of Vancouver; their mother Catherine Otto; four grandchildren; stepson Mark (Kathy) Frederickson of Rochester; and long-time friend and business associate Dick Howard. Fred was predeceased by his mother and father, Stefania and Frank Otto; and his brother Steve. Fred was born in Poland on January 21, 1921. He immigrated to Manitoba as a child with his parents and grew up in Winnipeg. He served in the R.C.A.F. during the Second World War. Fred had a successful business career, owning and operating Killeens Auto and Plate Glass Ltd. for many years. As an avid golfer, well known in the Manitoba golf scene, he won the Pine Ridge Club Championship in 1956, the Manitoba Seniors Championship in 1976 and the St. Charles Seniors Club Championship in 1981. The family would like to express thanks to the doctors and caring staff of Deer Lodge and St. Boniface Hospital. Cremation has taken place, with a private family service at Freds request. In lieu of flowers, if so desired, donation may be made in Freds memory to the St. Boniface Research Centre, 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2H 9Z9 or CancerCare Manitoba, 109-676 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
