Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHUGO UGIS ANDERSONS Hugo Ugis Andersons of Pointe du Bois, MB passed away on July 18, 2002 at the Pinawa Hospital at the age of 80 years. Left to mourn him is his niece Valda Bole of Chicago, Illinois and his longtime friend Helen Stine of Lac Du Bonnet, as well as many friends and co workers in Manitoba, the United States, France, Sweden and Latvia. He was predeceased by Vilma, his loving wife in June of last year. Hugo was born in Liepaja, Latvia on June 26, 1922. He received his education in Latvia. He graduated from the State Institute as a Technician in Electronics. During the Second World War he left Latvia and worked in different areas. At the end of the War he landed in the refugee camps in Germany. He later moved to Belgium and worked in the coal mines as an electrician. It was there he met and married Vilma, and in 1952 they immigrated to Canada and eventually Winnipeg. In 1955 he took a position in the City of Winnipeg Power Station in Pointe du Bois as an electrician. He was an excellent worker and in 1981 he was appointed the manager of the power station in Pointe du Bois and Slave Falls. He retired in 1987. After his retirement he and Vilma remained in the home they lived in for 47 years at Pointe du Bois. Hugo and Vilma loved nature and the outdoor life, in summer they fished on the Winnipeg River and in the fall Hugo went hunting. In the winter they were on their skis testing the Manitoba hills but every year they went on holidays to Jasper, AB with his longtime friend Maris Rutulis. Hugo and Vilma were active members in the Latvian Church, The Holy Cross in Winnipeg, they were also active in the Latvian Relief Society "Daugavas Vanagi" Branch and a variety of local committees in Pointe Du Bois. Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 26 at 2:00 p.m. from the Lutheran Church of the Cross, Lac du Bonnet, MB, with Rev. Professor Dr. Egil Grislis officiating. Interment will be in the Lee River Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jack Lamb, Maris Rutulis, Elmars Chulka, Alekis Larianovs, Alex Mowat and George Jandavs. If friends so desire memorial donations in Hugos memory may be made to the Latvian Relief Society of Canada, Manitoba Branch, 302-530 Daer Blvd., Winnipeg, MB, R3K 1C5.
