MICHAEL MALEGUS Peacefully on Friday, July 19, 2002 with his family by his side, Michael passed away at Health Sciences Centre at the age of 81. Born October 14, 1920 in Melrose, MB, Michael was predeceased by his mother, Maria, his father, Nikita, and brother John. He leaves to cherish his wife of 46 years, Eleanore (Penziwol) and four children, Michael Malegus of Calgary, AB, Mandy and husband Horace Smaczylo, Jackie Malegus and friend Signy Arnason, Audrey and husband Maury Malchuk. Papa had three grandchildren, Sabrina and Dustin Smaczylo and Gillian Malchuk. He is also lovingly remembered by his brothers, Peter (Louise), Nick, Sam (Moira) and sisters, Josie Stanko, Olga (Stanley) Chura, and Kathleen Brunet; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. Dad had a variety of jobs including working at CP Rail, sheet metal companies, and was an overall jack-of-all-trades. Michael and his wife Eleanore had various restaurant businesses in Winnipeg, Ontario, and Grand Beach. In 1960, they created "Mikes Bar-B-Que", located in Grand Marais, which they owned and successfully operated for 26 years. We would like to express our deepest gratitude to Father Athanasius for the Sacramental Ministry a year ago, and again on Friday, July 19, 2002. Our gratitude also extends to Health Sciences Centre, CancerCare Manitoba, and especially Dr. James Johnston and his nurse Giselle. Dads favourite activities included visiting with friends and family, repair projects, gardening, and cooking. He opened his home and heart to all. In the last few years of his life he spent most of his time with his wife, children, and grandchildren whom he adored. We miss him already, and are so very thankful for zest for life which gave us the additional year that we all shared as a family. Prayers will be sung 7:00 p.m. Monday, July 22 at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 737 Bannerman Ave. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 23 also at the church, with a Basilian Father officiating. Interment to follow at Birds Hill Pine Ridge Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Stanko, Ed Stanko, Richard Malegus, George Malegus, Peter Malegus, Norman Chura, with Jackie Malegus who wishes to be an honorary pallbearer for her Dad. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot. Forever remembered, forever loved. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
