MARY ELIZABETH (BETTY) DOCKING (nee KERNS) Betty, beloved wife of the late Roy C. Docking, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2002, at the Surrey Memorial Hospital in Surrey, BC. Betty is survived by Gordon (Lorraine) of Miami, MB, Alex (Jill) of Regina, SK, and Robert (Pat) of Surrey, BC; former daughter-in-law Tannis of Prince Albert, SK; sister-in-law Laura Docking of Winnipeg; and sister Kathleen Keen of Penticton, BC; grandchildren, Genevieve Neufeld (Kelly) of Fredericton, NB, Alexandra Steppler (Ian) of Deerwood, MB, Tyler of Regina, SK, Caitlin of Surrey, BC and Clinton Wong of Vancouver, BC; and one great-grandchild Matthew Ryan Neufeld of Fredericton, NB. Betty was predeceased by her parents, Alexander and Elizabeth Kerns; and her two brothers, Harry and Patrick. Betty is fondly remembered by numerous nieces, nephews and friends and especially by her dear friend Jessie Elliot of Winnipeg. Mom was born in Winnipeg on December 23, 1913. She spent most of her life in the St. James area. Towards the end of her long life, she moved to Vancouver to reside with her youngest son Robert and his family. Prior to moving out west, mom lived for a number of years at McClure Place on Greenwood Place in Winnipeg. Mom was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Mom and Dad enjoyed travel, spending many happy times traveling coast to coast in Canada, especially visiting their increasingly far-flung family. Mom was a lady of high intelligence and strong opinion who passionately enjoyed reading. A private interment will take place at Brookside Cemetery. A memorial service will be held at the St. James Presbyterian Church, 1476 Portage Ave, Winnipeg, at 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 29. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of ones choice or to the St. James Presbyterian Church.
