Don was predeceased by his adopted son George and his granddaughter Tracy; sisters, Gene Seniuk (Jim) and Marge Glowa (Ben). He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 59 years Ruth (Munn) daughter Neva St. Denis of Winnipeg; daughter Doreen Millichamp (Jim) of Winnipeg; son Larry (Sharon) of Barrie, ON; daughter Rosemarie Maveal (Gerry) of Gimli; son Kirk Musack of Gimli; nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; cousins, Joe Woytko, Marie Jewel and Joyce White. Don graduated from high school in 1934 - East Kildonan Collegiate, Winnipeg. He joined the army in June of 1941 and because of a clicking hip he was stationed under communications for the army at Okanogan Valley, BC, until January of 1946. At a Christmas dance in December 1942 he met his wife Ruth and promptly asked her to marry him. They were wed on February 10, 1943 and returned to Okanogan Valley until the war ended. In 1946 they moved to Toronto and worked for the Ford Motor Company in Oakville, ON and Simpson Sears in Toronto. In 1972 Don and his family decided to move back to Winnipeg and worked at Flyers Industry until his retirement. In 1977 they moved to Shorepoint Village in Gimli and Don officially retired in 1986. Gimli was good to Don where he volunteered at the Betel Home Foundation and as bowling marker for the special needs people. He was also involved in the New Horizon Seniors Club, where he was president for two years, sang in the choir, helped out at bingo and other activities. He was an avid fisherman and hunter until he was 82. In August of 2000 Don and Ruth moved to the Waterfront Center apartments where they resided together until March 2002 when Dons health began to fail. He spent three months in the Gimli Hospital until he was transferred to the Selkirk Tudor Nursing Home in May. In February 2002 he was transferred to Gimlis Betel Home where he enjoyed the remainder of his life. In accordance with Dons wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 26 at 10:30 a.m. in the Lakeside Church of God, Gimli, with Pastor Abe Harder officiating. A private family interment will be held. Special thanks to the doctors, nurses and staff at the Betel Home for having made his last days as memorable and comfortable as they were. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the New Horizons Club in Gimli or to the Lakeside Church of God. In tears we saw you sinking. We watched you fade away, You suffered much in silence, You fought so hard to stay. You face your task with courage, Your spirit did not bend, But still you kept on fighting Until the very end. God saw you getting tired, And good health was not to be, So He put His arms around you, And whispered, "Come Home to Me." So when we saw you sleeping So peaceful, and free from pain, We could not wish you back, To suffer that again. Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Gimli, in care of arrangements.
