RUTH VICTORIA HOOD On Tuesday, July 23, 2002, at the Selkirk General Hospital, Mom left us peacefully and suddenly, at the age of 91, after a brief illness with her daughter, Mary, by her side. Ruth was born at St. Peters, MB on August 25, 1910 and lived her childhood years at Brandon Residential School which she enjoyed immensely. She then moved to Edmonton and then Hodgson where she met and married Patrick in 1933. They moved to Selkirk in 1944 where she worked at MRM, Booth Fisheries, Selkirk General Hospital and latterly at Betel Home. She also cleaned many homes throughout the years in Selkirk. Ruth enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, cooking, bingo, trips to casinos, travelling across Canada and to the USA, dancing, jigging and socializing. She was predeceased by her husband Patrick; son Kenneth; grandchildren, Larry and Debra Cochrane; and brothers, McDougal and Walter Smith. Left to cherish her memory are children, Madeline (George), Beatrice (Ron), Mary (Pierre), Leona (Peter), Clarence (Pam) and Sharon (Henry) 18 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; three great-great-grand-children; a sister Josephine Courchene; and many other relatives and friends. This world has lost a caring human being, who gave selflessly of herself to whomever needed her help over the years. She cared more for others than herself. Mom loved her family and friends and truly enjoyed life to the fullest. She will be sadly missed. Prayers will be said on Thursday (tonight) at 7:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk. Funeral service will be held on Friday, July 26 at 2:30 p.m. in the St. Clements Anglican Church, Mapleton, with Rev. Canon Godfrey Mawejje officiating. Interment in the churchyard cemetery. Her pallbearers will be her grandsons and her granddaughters will be her honorary pallbearers. Thank you to Dr. Lindenschmidt, Dr. Demsas, nurse Trudy Reid, the staff on the Medical Ward, and her special friends, Ruby Olafson, Alice Stevenson, Beatrice Bedard and Louise Wood. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the St. Clements Church Building Fund, Box 5, Group 354, RR3, Selkirk, MB R1A 2A8. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
