MATHIAS J. (MATT) GUNNLAUGSON April 9, 1921 - July 24, 2002 Time on earth ended on Wednesday, July 24 for our beloved husband, father and grandfather, Matt. Now he is dwelling in his heavenly home free from pain and the illness which he endured this past year. Matt was born in Baldur, MB, moving to Winnipeg in 1954. Following a challenging and fulfilling 35 year career in construction he retired in 1987. After his retirement he kept very busy in his backyard, ensuring that no stone was left out of place. Another of his pleasures was to travel this beautiful country as well as many parts of the United States and Britain. Two of his notable favourites were Nestor Falls, ON, and Hawaii. He considered it a great privilege working hard to provide for a happy family home. Matts greatest reward was to be called "dad" or "grandpa." Remaining to forever cherish his memory are his wife Florence; and two sons, Brian and Hazel, Gordon and Jan; grandson Brenden; granddaughter Breanne; and granddogs, Chesmu, Kosey, Keema and Samosa who brought much joy to his life these last years. Two sisters also survive Matt, Dora Mitchell and Vala Bjornson as well as sister-in-law Josie Spearman, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends. His parents; brothers, Ben and Fred; and sisters, Lena, Rose and Sena predeceased him. A private interment will take place. In accordance with the wishes of Matt and his family, flowers are gratefully declined. Those who wish to do so may make donations to the Palliative Care Unit, St. Boniface Hospital and Research Foundation, 409 Tache, Winnipeg, MB R2H 2A6. Thanks to Dr. S.
