Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryIRIS HASSELMANN It is with great, great sadness that we announce the loss of Iris Eileen Patricia Hasselmann (nee Sulymka) at the young age of 61, after a courageous battle with cancer on July 24, 2002. Iris will be lovingly remembered by Horst, her husband of 38 years; and their children, Daria Hasselmann and Scott Baldwin of Vancouver, Patrick and Cindy Hasselmann and their daughters, Elke and Mika of Winnipeg, Jordan and Sandra Hasselmann and their son Jory of Winnipeg, Jason Hasselmann of Winnipeg, Suzie Hasselmann and Doug Brown of Toronto, Rachel Hasselmann of Winnipeg; and numerous relatives and friends. Iriss greatest strengths were her family and her faith, and she was proud to be an Associate of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary. Iris led a wonderful life full of adventure and love which she shared with everyone. She was an intrepid traveller, as well as an enthusiastic volunteer and a great supporter of the arts. Iris loved her books, was a brilliant cook and loved to entertain everyone who entered her home. She will be missed by everyone who had the opportunity to know and love her. The family would like to say a special thank you to all the nurses, doctors and staff at the Health Sciences Centre and the St. Boniface Hospital. Their compassion and caring were appreciated. Prayer service will be held at the St. John Brebeuf Roman Catholic Church, 1707 John Brebeuf Pl. in River Heights, on Sunday, July, 28, at 7:00 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated by Fr. Mike Koryluk also at the church the following morning, Monday, July 29, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will take place in Assumption Cemetery, 3990 Portage Ave. following the mass. Pallbearers will be Patrick, Jordan and Jason Hasselmann, Scott Baldwin, Doug Brown and Mark Sulymka. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Iriss name to the St. John Brebeuf School, 1707 John Brebeuf Pl., Winnipeg, R3N 2A2. "Iris, Mom, We love and miss you." Was just thinking happy thoughts about Iris and decided that I should try and follow up. Was very sad to come acoss this obituary. We only knew each other for a few years but I enjoyed being involved with Iris and meeting Horst and the kids. She and Horst were great hosts and Stan and I both have great memories of a dinner in their home wben it was newly renovated.
