He then attended the University of Manitoba, graduating with a degree of Bachelor of Science in Agriculture in 1974. In 1978 he graduated with a Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine from the University of Saskatchewan. He then was employed for six months with a private veterinary practice in Portage and Gladstone. In January of 1979 he moved to Alberta, returning to Manitoba in the fall of 1979. He then joined the family farm where he assisted with the farm operation. As well, he operated his own veterinary practice under the name of Northport Veterinary Clinic until the present. Marvin was employed by Manitoba Agriculture from January 1997 to March of 2000 as an Extension Veterinarian responsible for the administration of the Animal Care Act of Manitoba, as well as operating his own practice at the same time. Marvins community interest began with his involvement in the 4-H program during his youth. In those formative years he showed cattle at the Portage Fair and in doing so won the T. Eaton Gold Watch Award and also won a 4-H trip to Ottawa. Later Marvin was a member of the Portage Industrial Exhibition Association and served as president in 1991 and 1992 as well as serving on several committees for over 15 years. He was also an adherent of the Murray United Church at Oakland. Marvin was a past president of the Oakland Recreation Club and was presently a member of the Delta Agriculture Conservation Co-op. He was a volunteer and director of the Swine Welfare Committee for the Manitoba Pork Council. He was appointed as the Track Veterinarian for the summer for 15 seasons with the Manitoba Great Western Harness Racing Association. He also contracted for two winters with the Assiniboine Community Collegiate to conduct beef producers seminars. Predeceased by his mother Maude in 1997, father John in 1984, and niece Cara in 1984, he leaves to mourn his passing one brother Bob (Joan) McCallister of rural Portage; two sisters, Shirley (Monte) Boddy of Oakville, Mildred (Brian) Cotton of Brandon; nieces and nephews, Chris, Ian, Katie, Kelly, Darcy, Lee (Jill), Aaron, and Amy; and great-nephews and niece, Dustin, Bryce and Paige.
