ALBERTA JEAN STELCK (nee ARNOLD) 1918 - 2002 Alberta Jean Stelck passed away unexpectedly, but peacefully, on July 6, 2002, at Rest Haven Lodge, in Sidney, BC. Alberta was born on November 25, 1918 in Dauphin, the first born of four children born to Robert James (Jim) and Alda R. Arnold. Alberta grew up in Dauphin where she studied piano, had an appreciation for different kinds of music, and considerable artistic ability. Friends and relatives were the happy recipients of her oil paintings. It was in Dauphin where she met and married Leonard (deceased 1962). They moved to the west coast in 1938, made Victoria their home (apart from Lens military service during the Second World War). Together they raised three boys and ran a successful hardware business. Alberta enjoyed entertaining, and the meals were well remembered by her family and friends - barbecued roast beef, blackberry pies, turkey dinner and Flapper pie. Alberta loved to travel to sun spots, including Hawaii (her favourite), California and Arizona. Alberta was always very generous and strong-willed. She is lovingly remembered by her two sisters, Zenith and Myrtle, and her three sons and their families, Richard and Ellen and sons, Christian and Aron; Doug and Sarah and son Dustin; and James and Sheila and son Ted and daughter Simone. A special thank-you to the wonderful staff at Rest Haven Lodge who cared for Alberta with so much love. Alberta was predeceased by her father and mother, Jim and Alda Arnold; and her baby brother Robert James (stillborn 1920). A memorial service was held on Thursday, July 11 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Johns United Church, Deep Cove. In lieu of flowers, donations to Rest Haven Lodge, 2281 Mills Rd., Sidney, BC V8L 2C3, or the charity of your choice is appreciated.
