KATHLEEN EUNICE PENNOCK Kathleen Eunice Pennock, BA, LLB (nee Everett) of Victoria, BC, peacefully July 27, 2002, surrounded by family. Predeceased by her husband Douglas Villiers Pennock, she is survived by her children, Patricia (Douglas Biggs), Catherine, Martha (Brent Morrison), Charles (Beverley) and Douglas (Diana) by 14 grandchildren; by her brothers, A. William Everett, Sen. Douglas D. Everett; and by her sister Joan P. Catlett. Katie was born in Courtenay, BC in 1922 and grew up in Vancouver and Winnipeg. She was married in Winnipeg in 1947. Following her admission to the Manitoba Bar in 1949 as one of its first female members, she pursued an active career in volunteer work. Katie could always be counted on to work tirelessly for causes she cared about. Just a few of the beneficiaries of her leadership and passion are: the International, Canadian and Manitoba Red Cross Societies; Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific; St. Boniface Hospital; Manitoba Centennial Committee; Victoria Conservatory of Music; and the Government House Foundation - Victoria. She received the Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Medal; the Canadian Red Cross Society Gold Medal; and the Mother Theresa Special Services Award in recognition of her contributions. Katie will be remembered as a devoted wife, mother and friend who gave unstintingly. An energetic intellectual. Mums joie de vivre was infectious. Who would not want to spend time with someone who could fervently debate current affairs and in the next moment appear wearing a hat or boa, singing "Hello Dolly"? She will be missed. The funeral service will be held at St. Lukes Anglican Church, 3821 Cedar Hill X Rd., on Friday, August 2 at 1:00 p.m. A memorial service and interment in Winnipeg on September 7. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific for scholarships to support students attending the college.
