ELEANOR AUDREY McINTYRE (nee CUTHBERT) With her family and a good friend by her side, Eleanor, formerly of Winnipeg, died peacefully on July 10, 2002 in Delta Hospital, Ladner, BC. She was predeceased by her parents, Charles (Slim) and Jane (Jennie) Cuthbert; sister Jean; and her husband Harry. She is survived by her loving daughter Jean McIntyre and son-in-law David Kuhl; sister Edna Erskine(Tom) grand-daughters, Jennifer and Sarah; nephews, John and Norman; and niece Connie. Eleanor lived in the St. James area of Winnipeg, attending Linwood and St. James schools before enrolling at Success Business College. She pursued a successful business career in the Manitoba Legislative Buildings in the Department of Vital Statistics, and later, as secretary to the Deputy Minister of Health. She also worked as a volunteer for many years, giving her time and talents as a leader with the Girl Guides and with several churches including St. James, St. Margarets, and St. Peters in Winnipeg, and St. Davids in Tsawwassen, BC. Eleanor enjoyed a wide circle of friends through her involvement in church activities, in bridge clubs, and with Harry her husband, through square-dancing. Eleanor honoured her friendships, both new and old, and was committed to keeping in touch. Her friends have described her as a kind, gentle, quiet person with a great sense of humour; known to them as a "real lady, a superb cook, and a wonderful hostess with an endearing smile". Time spent with family was always a highlight for Eleanor. She enjoyed many vacations with her sister Edna and her brother-in-law Tom and their family, loved her visits with relatives in Britain, and also had many happy times spent with the OBrien and Lamoureux families. Eleanor was married for 26 years to Harry McIntyre, a long-time manager at the Winnipeg Eatons store. Following Harrys death in 1979, she cared for her father until he died in 1984, and then in 1990, she moved to British Columbia to be a "Nana" to her two granddaughters, joining Jean and David in Tsawwassen. She witnessed Jennifers and Sarahs first steps, among many other milestones, and made all of their birthday cakes spanning a period of 14 years. She taught the girls to swim, knit, crochet, tat, play cards, type and bake. Oatmeal-chocolate chip cookies, sour-cream coffee cakes, blackberry buckle, pumpkin pies, and lemon souffle were among her culinary specialties. She supervised countless piano practice sessions and was a devoted audience member for the many plays and dances which the girls staged. She was, in the words of Sarah, "The Best Nana in the Whole World". Eleanor will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A funeral service was held Wednesday July 17 at the Parish of St. David in Tsawwassen, BC. A memorial service will be held Monday, August 19 at 3:00 p.m. at St. Peters Anglican Church, 755 Elm St., in Winnipeg. Donations in Eleanors memory may be made to the fund of the Anglican Church of Canada for world relief: "The Primates World Relief and Development Fund", 600 Jarvis St., Toronto, ON M4Y 2J6.www.pwrdf.org
