MINNIE SPIKULUK It is with deep sadness that the family announce the passing of Michaelena Spikuluk, our beloved aunt on Thursday morning, August 1, 2002. Auntie Minnie died peacefully at Holy Family Nursing Home where she was a resident for the past several years. Michaelena was a very special baby, being born on Ukrainian Christmas Eve, January 6, 1922 in Fork River, MB. Minnie helped out on the family farm and in 1939 she married Harry Kozub of New Westminster, BC where they operated a market garden, orchard, and vineyard. With the encroachment of high rises, they decided it was time to sell. Minnie longed for her family in Manitoba and returned in the late 1950s, first to Winnipeg and later to Brandon. Minnie enjoyed music, baking, preserving her special jams, wine making, but embroidering was her passion. In spite of her many hardships, Aunt Minnie suffered for many years with failing health and depression. Aunt Minnie was predeceased by her parents, John and Karolka Spikuluk; sisters, Stella and Josephine (Ircha) her brother Louis, and Harry Kozub. Auntie Minnie leaves to cherish her memory niece Sonia (Rusnik-Ircha), nephews, Peter and Maurice Ircha; and numerous cousins. We would like to express our appreciation to the midnight staff of Seven Oaks Hospital Emergency Unit on June 28 for their excellent care of our Aunt. We would also like to thank the many wonderful, caring, and patient health care workers on St. Marys ward of Holy Family Nursing Home and Selkirk and Brandon Mental Health Care Centres. Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held at a later date. ALWAYS REMEMBERED VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
