MARTHA JOHNSON (nee HOAS) Peacefully, with the great love and comfort of her family and close friends, Martha Johnson, aged 63, passed away at her home on August 3, 2002. She will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her husband of 42 years, Ruben; by her children, Sharon (Ken) granddaughter Brittany, Verner (Jennifer) grandchildren, Amy, Sarah, Anders and Holly, and Larry (Christine). Her parents, John and Christina; her brothers, Alfred (Evelyn), Emil (Katie) nieces and nephews; Auntie Chris; and her close and dearest friends, Marj, Rita, Sonja and Albert will also lovingly remember her. Martha was born May 20, 1939 and grew up on the farm at Meadows, MB. She worked very hard on the farm until she moved away to Dugald, MB where she started her new life on the Johnson farm with her husband Ruben whom she married on April 23, 1960. Moms talents for cooking and baking are legendary. She was a wonderful homemaker, baker and cook and the memories she created will be cherished and live in our hearts forever. Our traditional family gatherings will always now be missing a special component without her presence. She raised three children and was a devoted, loving and caring mother, which her children will always cherish as she was always there for them. She enjoyed and loved her five grandchildren, which she held a special love for in her heart. Even though mom worked so hard on the farm she also found time to cook for the Swedish pavilion during Folklorama and was the cook for Vasalund Park for nine years. When Martha and Ruben left Dugald (the farm) they moved to Winnipeg and made their new home at 870 Cambridge where they were resident managers of the block. Over the eight years at 870 Cambridge they made many friends and looked after the premises as it was their own home. Mom found her last home as her retirement home where she spent her last year and loved it. Mom was a woman of great dignity, grace and a true friend. Her devotion as a wife, mother and grandma will never be forgotten. Mom will always be loved and honored in the memory of her husband, children, family and friends. A memorial service will held on Wednesday, August 7 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Marks Lutheran Church at 600 Cambridge St., with Pastor Richard Sauer officiating. The family would like to thank Dr. Wong and his primary nurse, Cathy at the St. Boniface Cancer Clinic for their care. The family has a special thanks to moms palliative care nurse Louise Dansereau whom had a special bond and cared for our mother in such a loving and dedicated way. We also would like to thank all the people who worked with Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and the Palliative Care Program, which provided our mother with such special love and compassionate care at her home. Your warmth, care and love are greatly appreciated and will always be remembered. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the CancerCare Manitoba, 109-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R3E 0V9. There is a smile well remember forever. True was her heart, Her actions so kind Her life was a pattern For those left behind. A beautiful soul In a garden of rest Its true what they say, God chooses the best. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
