NICOLA AURITI With deepest sorrow we announce the passing of Nicola Auriti on August 3, 2002 after a courageous battle with cancer. Nick was born on January 25, 1936 in Guardigrele, Italy. He was the beloved husband of Dina; dear father of Marco (Cynthia), Angelo (Leila), Angela (Mark Kohan), and Cristina (Michael Metelski) and dear grandfather of Roman, Jarrett, Tianna, Antonia "Toni", Sara, and Jonathan. Nick immigrated to Canada in 1957 to work for the C.P.R. where he met Dina, whom he married in 1959. He left the C.P.R. in 1965 to work for Cancades so he could spend more time with his greatest pride and joy - his family. Nick created a beautiful home where his many talents and hobbies are visible, like his artistic rod iron work, his cherished garden, and his gadgets of convenience. Over the years, Nick was involved in various organizations including St. Augustines Church, the Assiniboine Historical Society, Daly House Museum, Knights of Columbus, St. Vincent de Paul, the Catholic School Board and the Multicultural Council. Nick is survived by his brother Vincenzo in Winnipeg and his sister Maria in Italy. He was predeceased by his sister Consolina, his mother Teresa, and his father Angelosante. The funeral was held at St. Augustines Roman Catholic Church on August 8, with Fr. Leo Fernandes as Celebrant. Pallbearers were Peter Adamo, John Auriti, Jeff Houck, Lorenzo Auriti, Paul Fazio, and Antonio Auriti, nephews of Nick. Honorary pallbearers were Chris Barcellona, Rudy Bidinosti, Jim Bradford, Paul Cancade, Danny Kilmury, and Duncan Sawers, friends of Nick. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Nick to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, 327 - 4th St., Brandon, MB R7A 3H1 or to the Daly House Museum, 122 - 18th St., Brandon, MB R7A 5A4. Nick was a good friend and a great neighbour. He leaves behind many loved ones who will dearly miss him. Messages of condolence may be placed at www.brockiedonovan.com. Arrangements were in care of Brockie Donovan Funeral Home, (204)727-0694.
