PAULINE SHERBATY (nee SNIEZEK) Peacefully, on Saturday, August 3, 2002 at Victoria Hospital, Pauline Sherbaty, aged 90 years of Winnipeg. Pauline was born October 10, 1911 in Toporauti, Ukraine. She came to Canada at the age of 17, not speaking any English. She worked briefly as a mothers helper and then as a cook/waitress in her stepfathers sisters restaurant, working long hours for little pay. After many years, Pauline left the restaurant and worked in a sewing factory whereby she was able to pay back the cost of her trip to Canada and to pay for her own house. In December 1947 Pauline married Harry and quit work to raise a family, but ended up working harder caring for the rental properties they came to own. By her caring and generous nature, she sent parcels of food and clothing to relatives in East Germany and Ukraine. Pauline was an accomplished seamstress, cook and baker and enjoyed feeding all who came to visit her. She was a loving, considerate and nurturing wife, mother and grandmother. She be greatly missed as a foundation of our family. Pauline was a longtime member of Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, the perogy and holubchi group and Young United Church. Left to cherish Paulines memory are her daughters, Lianne Sherbaty-Sholtack, her husband Gerald and daughter Stacey all of Toronto, Harriet Kesson, her husband John and son Paul of Winnipeg; sisters, Ann Trampisch (Paul), Steffi Buchner, Helene Weiss (Werner) in Germany; brother Taras Butilinsky in Ukraine. She was predeceased by her husband Harry in 1991; parents, Fridrik and Veronika; and sisters, Misha and Genya. Prayers will be said 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, August 8 at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral, 1175 Main St. with Very Rev. H. Lakusta officiating. Entombment will follow Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of ones choice. VICHNAYA PAMYAT KORBAN FUNERAL CHAPEL 956-2193
