CHERYL L. BROCKINGTON (nee STOKES) February 19, 1963 - August 6, 2002 Cheryl passed away quietly, surrounded by her loving family, on Tuesday, August 6, 2002 at the Riverview Health Centre at the age of 39 years. Cheryl leaves to mourn her passing and to cherish her memory her loving husband Steve; son Owen; daughter Alexis; her parents, Dick and Judy Stokes; her sister and best friend Karen Baker and her husband Jeff and their children, Hayley, Chelsea and Cole; her special brother Gord Stokes and his wife Nancy and their children, Benjamin and Elise; mother-in-law Blanche Brockington; five brothers-in-law, one sister-in-law, as well as numerous other relatives and dear friends. Cheryl will be remembered by her family as a kind, loving and generous person who always did for others before herself. She excelled in education and graduated from the University of Winnipeg with a Bachelor of Science degree before attending Purdue University where she received her Masters degree. For the past seven and one-half years Cheryl has been the Daycare Coordinator for Child and Family Services in the Thompson area. Cheryl was involved in her community and was blessed with many everlasting friendships. She was a member of the local hockey executive and found a great deal of enjoyment watching her son play hockey. In 1997, she met the love of her life Steve and they were blessed with their second child, Alexis. She will be sadly missed and forever remembered. The family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Gimli Hospital, CancerCare Manitoba and to the wonderful staff at Riverview Health Centre for the care given to Cheryl. Also a special thank you to the OBrien family and to Lynn Scott for opening their homes and hearts to us during this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to an education fund for her children in care of Richard Stokes, 55 C Applelane, Winnipeg, MB R2Y 2G9. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 10 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment will take place in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, with a reception to follow at the Army Navy & Air Force Veterans Hall, 3584 Portage Ave. A memorial service will be held in Thompson, MB at a later date.
