WORMELL It is with sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Bert on Monday, August 5, 2002 at Seven Oaks Hospital at the age of 87 years. He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter Barbara Cinnamon; son Geoffrey and wife Micheline; granddaughter Jennifer Lapkin and her husband Meyer. Bert was predeceased by his wife and partner of 52 years Marjorie Edith in February of 1994. Bert was born on November 5, 1914 in Plumstead, London, UK. He was educated at Askes School and London Polytechnical College on scholarships. He graduated with honors, receiving a combined degree in electro-mechanical engineering. He married Marjorie Edith Hocking on April 12, 1941. The family came to Winnipeg in 1949 when he was transferred by Siemens Bros., which later became A.E.I. Telecommunications. Bert was president for 23 years retiring in 1977 to take greater advantage of his summer home on Clearwater Bay. Bert and Marjorie travelled throughout Canada, the U.S. and England. They also visited Venezuela. He was a Pastmaster and a very active member of the Free Masons Northern Light Prince Rupert Lodge No. 1. Bert was a Fellow of the British Institute of Electrical Engineers, and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America. Bert served with the British 5th Army in North Africa and Italy. Following cremation, an interment ceremony will be held for the family only. A memorial service for friends and neighbours will be held on Friday, August 9 at 2:00 p.m. at the Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd., with Reverend Joanne Kury officiating. In lieu of flowers, if friends so desire, donations in Berts name may be made to the Seven Oaks General Hospital Foundation, 2300 McPhillips Ave., Winnipeg, MB, R2V 3M3 or a charity of ones choice.
