ELSE BARCHET (nee SELIGER) June 5, 1928 - August 7, 2002 After three difficult years of battling cancer, this quietly brave soul left her pain behind for a better place. She was predeceased by her father Rudolf Seliger and is survived by her mother Olga. She will forever be in the hearts of her devoted husband Paul K. Barchet; children, Rosemarie Watson of Victoria (Ken), Carmen R. Barchet (Larry Desrochers), Paul M. Barchet (Jacinta) and Marianne E. Barchet; grand-children, Mark, Tina, Tim, Lyra, David and Stefan; and great-grandchild Tracy. Mom was born an only child in Wartegau in 1928. She graduated from a business college in 1944 but also apprenticed as a seamstress in preparation for immigration to Canada with her parents. Around this time she met her future husband Paul, also bound for Canada. They married in Winnipeg in 1951 at the Lutheran Church of the Cross, where they remained long time members until transferring to St. Peters. Moms excellent work as a household help led to a recommendation for her employment with Eatons Alterations Department from 1949 to 1954. With the birth of their first child she chose to change careers, remaining at home to be a full time mom for us four children, running the household and assisting with the family grocery business. She always took the time to prepare home cooked meals, wonderful baking, preserving jams and pickles, sewing and mending the familys attire, planting a beautiful garden and keeping a meticulously clean home. Bedtime meant prayers with Mom and hearing her sing lullabies with her lovely voice. And she always emphasized the importance of doing our best whether it be for school, music studies or church activities. For the last 30 years, Mom maintained her devotion to her family despite the onset of arthritis. Three years ago she began an additional battle with cancer. Despite her pain and suffering she wouldnt complain and was a good patient determined to win this fight. A highlight during this time was the family celebration of Mom and Dads Golden Wedding Anniversary. Mom amazed people with her fighting spirit, but the last two weeks saw her suffering increase daily until she was finally set free. She was a blessing to us all and is sorely missed. We celebrate Moms life on Monday, August 12 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peters Lutheran Church, 65 Walnut St. with interment at Brookside Cemetery. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
