MICHAEL SOKOL With his family by his side, Michael Sokal passed away peacefully on August 6 at the age of 87 years. Michael will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 62 years Anne; his sons, John (Erlene) and George (Linda) grandchildren John (Laura), George (Christine), Darren (Allyson), Richard (Brenda), Sharlene (Dan), Jeremy (Joanna) and great-grandchildren, Andrea, Stephanie, Michael, Jennifer, Heather, and Matthew. He was predeceased by his father John; mother Rose; sisters, Anna Sokal, Francis Zaborniak, Mary Skotynsky and Kathleen Sokal. Michael was born and educated in Pine Ridge, MB. In 1940, he married Anne and together they farmed in the North Springfield area. Michael will be remembered for his strong work ethic and his generous, humble ways. His legacy is evident in the love of the family that he and Anne raised, as well as in the farm that they developed. Michael was physically active and continued to work the family farm until his passing. He was an active member of the Immaculate Conception Church at Cooks Creek and contributed to its original construction by hauling gravel and concrete. The family would like to thank the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital, the Tache Family Medical Centre and the Health Sciences Centre for their compassionate and professional care. Pallbearers will be grandchildren, John, George, Darren, Richard, Sharlene, and Jeremy. Services in celebration of Michaels life will be held on at the Immaculate Conception Church at Cooks Creek. Prayers will be heard at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 10. Burial at Birds Hill Cemetery will follow the funeral service.
