PETER VERDENIK Gently, on Wednesday, August 7, 2002, Peter went to his eternal home to be with his Maker. Peter was born on February 8, 1914 in Transcona, grew up in Fraserwood and Winnipeg, and became a long-time resident of St. Boniface. In 1935, he met Jean Medynski and they were married on July 24, 1937. In 1949, Peter joined Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church where he later became president of the church and its bowling league and was a founder and integral member of the Parish Centre. He was also an honoured member of the Knights of Columbus. Peters life was rich with experiences including being a trapper, serving in the Second World War effort at a nitroglycerine plant and establishing Verdenik Heating Service, where he became renowned for his quality workmanship for decades. He loved to sing, was an accomplished ballroom dancer, curler and bowler. He will be sadly missed by his children, Marcia and Eddy, Denny and David, along with seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He will also be mourned by his sister Anne Kostyk and his nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his wife Jean, his parents, brothers and eldest sister. He will always be lovingly remembered by all his family and, utmost, as an excellent grandfather. Prayers will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 11 in the Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons St. Funeral mass will be held on Monday, August 12 at 10:00 a.m. at Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, 390 Marion St., with Rev. John Mostivsky presiding. Interment will follow in the St. Boniface Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Keith, Valerie and Gord, Michele, Douglas, Nicole, Jeannine and John, Leonard, nephew William Kostyk. Flowers gratefully declined. Memorial donations may be made to the Central Park Lodge Residents Craft Fund. Special thanks to the second floor staff of Poseidon Central Park Lodge. You made Peter happy.
