EMERSON GARFIELD (GAR) McKINNON Mr. Emerson Garfield (Gar) McKinnon, beloved husband for 65 years of Mrs. Janet McKinnon of Calgary, AB, passed away peacefully at the Dr. Vernon Fanning Centre on August 7, 2002 nine days short of his 90th birthday. Besides his loving wife Janet, Gar is survived by two daughters, Marlene (Lewis) Bedford of Calgary and Carole (Glen) Ash of Winnipeg. Gar is also survived by six grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren and two brothers, Pete of Saskatoon, SK and Rainie of Gimli, MB. Gar was predeceased by one infant son Randall and two brothers, Nelson and Donald. Born on August 16, 1912 at Russell, MB, where he received his education, and later worked as a butter maker for Smellie Bros. Creamery. In 1941 he enlisted in the R.C.A.F. Upon his discharge, trained as a watchmaker and worked in that capacity in Winnipeg before joining the Timex watch company as their prairie representative for 20 years. He was a member of the Canadian Jewellers Institute for 20 years and a Life Member of N.W.C.T.A. In 1977, he retired to Vancouver Island, where he was a member of the Cowichan Golf and Country Club. A private family service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation in Gars name may be made to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.
