BALDUR SIGURJON SIGURDSON January 29, 1921 - August 7, 2002 It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Baldur Sigurdson at Riverview Health Centre on Wednesday, August 7, 2002. Born in Riverton, MB, he and his family moved to Winnipeg in the late 1930s. During the Second World War Baldur served as a flying officer in the Royal Canadian Air Force in the prairie provinces and the Maritimes. In 1949 he graduated from McGill University as a mechanical engineer and worked throughout western Canada representing Praxair and then served as vice-president for Mueller Ltd. of Sarnia, ON until his retirement. During his years in Sarnia, Baldur was active as a Rotarian, a board member of the Childrens Aid Society and a member of Grace United Church. He leaves to mourn his wife Doreen; children, Eric (Jeanne), Elise (Peter) and Christine (Brian) his grandchildren, Christen, Jehane, Jon, Leif, Anna, Lars, Kristian and Emile; and his great-grandchildren, Molly and Alice. Baldur will always be remembered for his wonderful kindness, humour and joy in being with friends and family. He brought a delightful curiosity to the world around him and took great pride in improving the homes he lived in over the years. Baldur cherished the warmth and support he experienced growing up with his Icelandic parents and six brothers and sisters in Riverton. Those family bonds lasted a lifetime and were enhanced through 59 years of marriage to Doreen Hayden. Some of his great pleasures included doing puzzles with his grandchildren, reading mystery novels and playing golf. He delighted forever in the hole-in-one he scored one misty day in May several years ago. A celebration of Baldurs life will be held on Tuesday, August 13 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of Riverview Health Centre at 1 Morley Avenue. Baldurs family expresses great appreciation and thanks to the physicians, nurses and staff of the Riverview Health Centre for their wonderful care. Safe journey our beloved prairie boy.
