ELIZABETH (BETTY) POLINSKY (nee WEIDMAN) After a short illness, Betty Polinsky passed away on Saturday, August 3, 2002, at the St. Boniface Hospital. The funeral was held on Tuesday, August 6 at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. Betty will be greatly missed by her husband David; daughter Shirley Stone and her husband Archie; grandchildren, Mark and Reena Stone, Barry and Erin Stone; and her sister Reisa Shapira. She was predeceased by her parents Abe and Ida Weidman, her brother Lewis, and her loving son Sam. Betty was born in Winnipeg in 1917 and spent the majority of her life here. After completing high school, she attended the University of Manitoba. She was involved with Hadassah and Youth Aliyah and traveled many times to Israel with Dave. They spent winters in Hawaii and then in recent years, Palm Springs. Many joyous summers were spent at their cottage at Clearwater Bay: fishing, playing bridge, and entertaining. Betty loved to entertain, whether for bridge or dinner with friends or family. She was a wonderful cook and loved sharing her recipes. Betty was extremely devoted to her family. She had a wonderful 62-year marriage to Dave that was an inspiration to all. They shared a lifetime of love, joy and togetherness that very few couples experience. She adored her grandchildren, and they in turn considered her to be not only a grandmother, but a friend and mentor as well. All those who were fortunate to have known Betty will remember her honesty, the twinkle in her eye and her special way of making people feel happy in her presence. Contributions in her memory may be made to the "Betty & Dave Polinsky Fund "of the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, or a charity of your choice.
