WASYL (BILL) MARCINYSZYN Peacefully, with his family at his side, on Wednesday, July 17, 2002, aged 102. Wasyl (Gigi) leaves to celebrate his life, his daughter Sylvia (William) Prokopanko; grandson Lawrence (Cheryl) Prokopanko and great-grand-children, Adam and Erin of Winnipeg; granddaughter Teresa (Douglas) Petriw and great-granddaughter Michelle of Lethbridge, AB; as well as nieces and nephews in Canada and Ukraine. He was predeceased by his parents and several siblings in Ukraine and by his three sisters in Canada, Irene Kuchma, Ahafia Deda and Molly Kasper. Wasyl was born April 15, 1900 in Pshenec, Western Ukraine. As a young man, in the First World War, he served in several European Armies. He immigrated to Canada in 1926 and worked as a carpenter. He was a kind and gentle man who took great pride in his family, craft and garden. A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 14 at Korban Funeral Chapel, 907 Main St., with Rev. N. Yakiwchuk officiating. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, that donations may be made to St. Josephs Residence Inc., 1149 Leila Ave., Winnipeg, MB R2P 1S6.
