ANNA VIOLA HERMAN It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of our dear aunt Viola Herman on August 12, 2002. Viola was born on August 7, 1909, in Sundsval, Sweden. She came to Canada to join her sister Linnea Strom in 1927. She worked at the Winnipeg General Hospital for 17 years and later at several nursing homes in Winnipeg. She married John Herman in 1951 and they moved to England in 1959. Viola then moved back to Canada in 1978. After living in Hilbre for a few years she moved to the Moosehorn Manor, to the Deaf Centre in Winnipeg, and in January of 2002, to the Pioneer Manor in Ashern. Aunt Viola had a "Heart of Gold," always very generous and kind. She will be especially remembered for her superb memory and her stories of her early life in Manitoba. She leaves to mourn her niece Florence (Sablin) Linde of Hilbre, MB; nephew Edward (Val) Strom of Hilbre; niece Marcia Cook of Portage la Prairie, MB; sister-in-law Pat Herman of Liverpool, England; numerous nieces and nephews; along with many friends and relatives in Canada, Sweden and England; also special friends, Jean Carlson and Pat Marinilli of Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her husband John Herman in 1975, sister Linnea Strom in 1988 and brother-in-law John Strom in 1989. A private family service will be held. A special thank you to all the doctors, nurses and staff at the Lakeshore General Hospital for their tender care, and her homemaker Rose of Winnipeg. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lakeshore Hospital Guild, care of Runa Mangl, Ashern, MB, "for use in the palliative care unit."
