Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHN DIMOND (JACK) TRUSCOTT Peacefully at age 87, Jack Truscott passed away on August 12, 2002, at Victoria General Hospital. Jack leaves to cherish his memory, his children; daughter Rae Becker and husband Gordon of Richmond, BC, daughter Eileen Truscott of Peachland, BC, son John and his wife Brenda of Richmond, BC, son Gordon and wife Mavis of Calgary, and daughter Joan Morriss and husband John of Winnipeg. He will also be missed by sisters, Gertrude Truscott and Florence Peterson of Montreal; grandsons, granddaughters, relatives, friends, former colleagues and students. He was predeceased by his wife Gertrude in 1988; and by his brother Howard; and sister Ruth. Jack was born to Gertrude and John Truscott in Saskatoon in 1915. He graduated from Normal School in Saskatoon and taught at Monarch School near Biggar, SK, where he met his wife Gertie. He joined the RCAF in the Second World War, reaching the rank of Squadron Leader. After the war, Jack went to the University of Saskatchewan, receiving his Bachelor and Masters of Science in Agriculture. He began work at the Brandon Experimental Farm in the early 1950s, and received his PhD in Agriculture from Iowa State University in 1958. He moved to Winnipeg to work in the Faculty of Agriculture at the University of Manitoba as a professor of agriculture and genetics, specializing in forages. He later became Associate Dean of the faculty and Director of the Glenlea Research Station. Jack was active for many years with the Fort Garry School Board, the Fort Garry Community Club and the Fort Garry United Church. Jack was dedicated to his work and community, but was foremost a loving husband and father, devoted to his family. The family extends thanks to the nurses and staff on the fifth floor of Victoria General Hospital for their care and comfort. Cremation has taken place. Jacks ashes will be placed next to Gerties in the cemetery beside her family farm near Biggar. Many family members will travel to Winnipeg for a memorial service, which will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 27 at Fort Garry United Church, 800 Point Rd. Flowers are gratefully declined.
