Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJAMES PERCY (BUCK) GREY July 9, 1915 - August 13, 2002 The time has come to say good-bye to our beloved husband, father and grandfather, who passed away amidst the love of his family and the beauty of Lake of the Woods on Tuesday, August 13, 2002. Dad was born and raised in Calgary, AB, where he spent his boyhood as a young cowhand on the range, a summer newspaper boy in Banff, and during his teens, a bicycle delivery boy for his fathers cartage business. In 1940, Dad began his 40 plus year career in the electrical business, first as a salesman for Northern Electric Company in Calgary, then as District Sales Manager, General Manager and President of Cochrane-Stephenson (Western) Ltd. in Winnipeg. Following his retirement in 1985, Dad enjoyed operating two tourism businesses in North Western Ontario. In 1942, Buck joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, proudly serving his country as a Flying Officer with the 432nd Leaside Squadron in England, where he was a Tail Gunner. He left the services in 1945, taking with him countless profound experiences and life-long friendships. Over the years, Dad was a member of the Wartime Pilots and Observers Association, The Manitoba Follow-Up Study of the Cardiovascular Research Unit of the RCAF, The Northwest Commercial Travellers Association, and the Wildewood Club. He spent every summer since 1958 with his family at the various cottages on Lake of the Woods, where he enjoyed many hours of visiting, fishing, chopping wood, and tending to trees. He loved many canine companions throughout his life, and was an avid hunter, reader, and coin collector. Above all, Dad loved his family, and he leaves us to cherish every moment we spent together. His wife of nearly 53 years, Bernice; son Jim; son Peter (Brenda) daughter Mary Jane (Randy) Reid; daughter Susan (Bud) McLeod; daughter-in-law Barbara Williams; grandchildren, Jayme and Ryan Grey, Christopher, Dustin, and Jillian McLeod, Lauren and Denny Grey. He was predeceased by his parents James and Maude Grey, and sister Beatrice Oakes. Funeral services will be held Monday, August 19 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. (south of the Royal Canadian Mint) at 2:00 p.m. Interment will take place in Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. A gathering of family and friends will follow in the reception area. Should you desire, donations in Dads memory to the Salvation Army, P.O. Box 1932, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 3R2, would be sincerely appreciated. Until we are together again, Dad... Our lives are like seasons We live them one by one, From the early flowers in springtime To the bitter snows that come May the life you spent among us Be reflected in years to come, And the memories we have gathered Be reward of your life well done. Your parting has left a void in us But we fill it through the years, With thoughts of laughter that we shared Your hopes, your dreams, your fears. We know that you are resting From the sorrow and the tears, In a place of warmth and comfort Where there are no days or years. And you will go on living In the hearts of those you touched, For nothing loved is ever lost And you were loved so much.
