Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryGERALD WAYNE STEBELESKI April 25, 1941 - August 16, 2002 It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Gerry, beloved husband, father and Gigi. Gerry had a long battle with cancer, which he failed to win. Gerry passed away at home with his loving wife and children at his side. It was Gerrys wish to be at home until the end and his wish was granted. He died with dignity very peacefully. Gerry is survived by his wife of 41 years, Vicki; his son Brian; daughter Karen; grand-children, Jarrod and Jennifer; daughter-in-law Sandy; son-in-law Gary; brother Bill; and sister-in-law Terry from Red Deer, AB. He is also survived by many cousins, aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by his mother Pearl; father Ollie; sister Ann; brothers, Alex, Andy, Murray, and Fritz. Gerry loved all sports. He curled for many years with the Central Mixed Curling League. Gerrys great love was golf. He golfed with a group of men for many years and they called themselves the "Shyka". They golfed out of the Transcona Golf and Country Club but went all over Manitoba. Every year Bill Maslanko, who at that time was a Carling Brewers rep, had a "Goofy Golf Tournament". Those guys had a great time. Gerry was a great New York Rangers fan, and when they won the Stanley Cup in 1994, he said, "Now I can die in peace." He also loved his Los Angeles Dodgers and the Bombers. The family is so grateful for the care that Gerry got during his illness. First and foremost, we thank our family doctor, Dr. Cindy Pachal, from Plessis Medical Clinic. Dr. Pachal, there are no words that we can use to express our thanks and gratitude for the loving care you gave Gerry and the support you gave our family. So often you went above and beyond the call of duty. Thank you is not enough, but what else can we say. May God Bless you. We also thank the staff at the clinic for all their kindness. Thank you goes out to Dr. Ross McMahon for his valiant effort, Dr. Pat Harris for four years of treatment, the Oncology Department of Concordia Hospital, and Dr. Nasser Ahmed at Manitoba CancerCare. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our wonderful friends for their support during Gerrys illness: Jackie, Valorie, Sylvia, Marj, Jen, Ralf, and Missy. Your love and understanding will never be forgotten. A very special thank you to Dennis St. Laurent, Coordinator of the Palliative Care Unit. You gave us the ability to grant Gerrys wish to die at home. You have a team of wonderful professionals. Carrie Doerksen, Gerrys nurse, you were absolutely wonderful, giving him loving care and support to our family. Kris, after hours nurse, thank you for your prompt attention. A memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday, August 20 at 2:00 p.m. at the Transcona Funeral Chapel, 1800 Day St. with Rev. Victoria Shaw officiating. In lieu of flowers, if friends so wish, memorial donations may be made to the Palliative Care Unit or to Manitoba CancerCare. Vichnaya Pamyat Forever Remembered Transcona Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements.
