WATY C. BENSON September 20, 1908- August 18, 2002 Peacefully and quietly on August 18 after a full and happy life Waty Benson, a lifelong resident of Selkirk, passed away in her 94th year at the Betel Home, Selkirk. Waty is survived and forever loved and remembered by her daughters, Janet (Terry) Kreutz, Tannis (Doug) Bateman; son Murray (Leslie) Benson; six grandsons, Jim and Glenn Kreutz, Chris and Ian Bateman, Colin and Chris Benson; great-grandmother to Jacob. Also survived by her sisters-in-law, Eleanor, Glenna and Vera Benson as well as many nieces and nephews. Mom was predeceased by her husband Harold in 1993; sister Lisle and her husband Charles; brothers-in-law, Lorne, Vernon and Leslie Benson; sisters-in-law, Cissie (Harold), Gladys Benson, Sylvia Bale and most recently her youngest niece Denise (Bale) Holton. Mom married her high school sweetheart, Harold and lived most of her life at 214 Britannia Ave., a house which her father built when she was a young girl. Her fathers uncle, Francis Evans Cornish was the first mayor of Winnipeg. Mom was a lifelong member of the Selkirk United Church and was actively involved with church affairs and the U.C.W. She was a 55 year member of Chapter A.P.E.O. Our Mom can best be described as a kind and gentle lady with a keen sense of humour and wit which was very evident throughout her 93 years. She was a terrific mom, grandmother and great-grandmother, whose family always came first. She was a talented artist involved in oil painting, needlework and sewing. During Moms youth she enjoyed the outdoors, swimming, playing tennis, skating and snow shoeing, which was at the top of her list of favourites. The family would like to express their sincere and grateful appreciation to Selkirk Home Care and staff for their excellent care of Mom over the years. A Memorial Service will be held at Selkirk United Church on Monday, August 26 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Barb Janes officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Selkirk United Church, Memorial Fund, Box 67, Selkirk, MB or to CancerCare MB, P.O. Box 2248 Stn. Main, Winnipeg, MB, R3C 9Z9 or to a charity of ones choice. Rest In Peace, Nana Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk, in care of arrangements.
