Frances Cabrini) Peacefully, on August 17, 2002, Sister Maureen Dunne died at St. Boniface Hospital, after 12 days of docile, cheerful acceptance of her condition. Sister Maureens closest family travelled to Winnipeg to support her through her illness. Sister Maureen was predeceased by her parents, Mary Frances and John Joseph Dunne; her brothers, Peter and Kevin; and her sister Cecile. She leaves to mourn her passing, her sister Patricia Muir (Jim) from Vancouver; and her brother John and his wife Doreen from White Rock, BC; their families, her friends and her religious community. Maureen was born in Portsmouth, England on May 11, 1919 and came to Winnipeg with her family as a child. Her early education was received at St. Ann and St. Ignatius parochial schools, then at St. Marys Academy. Maureen worked for several years before she entered the novitiate of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary in Montreal in 1946. Sisters post-secondary education was received at the Universities of Manitoba, Marquette, Milwakee and St. Pauls in Ottawa. Among her diverse works through life, Sister taught at St. Marys, St. Ignatius, Holy Cross, Sir Maurice Roche Schools and St. Marys Academy. Sister also taught at Fort Wright College, Washington and in Japan. She did parish work in BC, as well as in Winnipeg. Very interested in ecology, Sister did her utmost to make people aware of the necessity to keep "Mother Earth" healthy and productive. Many thanks to the staff at Residence Jesus-Marie, the staff on 4A and B at St. Boniface Hospital. The gentle, continuous care given to Sister Maureen was deeply appreciated as well as Sister Patricia Doyles prayerful presence. Prayers for Sister Maureen will be held at Residence Jesus-Marie, 321, avenue de la Cathedrale, St. Boniface (Ph. 233-7085) on Tuesday, August 20 at 7:30 p.m. Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at the same address on Wednesday, August 21 at 10:00 a.m. The pallbearers are Sr. Amanda Desharnais, Sr. Patricia Doyle, Sr. Alma Fontaine, Sr. Laura Gosselin, Sr. Alice Konefall, and Sr. Johanna Jonker.
